As half of North America is burning and the other half is under water, as people around the world are uprooted by effects of man-made climate change, war and increasingly extremist governing, the Dollhouse at the End of the World – a collaborative installation/performance project – confronts this complex moment of deconstruction to address the chaotic, nonsensical world-wide choreography that we are collectively performing. The work tackles the state of the world today – teetering on the brink of 2 minutes to midnight and environmental collapse – through collecting and combining the five artists’ practices and materials of work to give birth to a recombined apocalyptic aesthetic.
Sealed behind the plastic-wrapped frame of an imaginary life-sized dollhouse, the Montréal-based collective, Incubator for Phantom Pregnancies (IFPP), will spend one week in residency at Ymuno Exhibitions. During this phase, the public may watch the progress through the windows. At the vernissage of the exhibition, the seal will be broken and the public welcomed into the finished space.

BIOGRAPHY
Phantom Pregnancy: A condition in which the body believes it is gestating new life.
A delusional expectation, a feeling-out for something else to come.
Incubator: where we host and nurture such delusions.
The Incubator for Phantom Pregnancies is comprised of five intergenerational female artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, all of whom now live and work in Montreal: Dana Dal Bo, Emily Jan, Csenge Kolozsvari, Tammy Salzl, and Sandra Smirle. Each is a transplant from elsewhere.
Their paths converged in the MFA program of Concordia University, and continued to cross through informal gatherings and critiques, studio visits, vernissages, and a weekly breakfast club at a local dépanneur. From these interactions grew a desire to create a supportive space for producing and showing new work, as well as a platform for exploration and experimentation beyond their individual practices. The collective was born.
The members’ collaboration is fueled by their various professional practices (painting, video, sculpture, sound, performance, and the net) resulting in hybrid projects in which differences and contrasts are considered and valued as a spark for future creations.
